SHANNON HUNTER

Shannon Hunter operates from the belief that as society becomes increasingly dependent on technology, virtual entertainment, and screen-based lives, humanity becomes disenfranchised from the health of the body, mind, and soul. Since relocating to the Scenic Rim over two decades ago, Hunter’s practice has sought to express a desire to return to Gaia, investigating a pagan pre-history that celebrates the divine feminine and the cycles of life. For Aqua Limina, Hunter employs freeform knitting and crochet—techniques she values for the total intellectual engagement they demand. The creative process is an instinctive, moment-by-moment dialogue between artist and medium, informed by decades of skill-building. Each piece begins as an internal spark, a voice attempting to communicate and connect with the world outside her creative cocoon.

Her work titled Reef II interprets what it means to immerse the human body in breathtaking bodies of water: light, restorative, transparent, and precious. Ultimately, the work serves as a reminder to protect these vital systems at all costs.
