ALEXANDRA DUNN

“I was seeking peace, and I pictured where I am most at rest, and that is beside the ocean.”

Alexandra’s ceramic practice draws on a multidisciplinary background, shaping a reflective and humanitarian approach to creating her work. Her clay figures function as contemplative objects or totems, created to evoke feelings of peace, joy, and emotional restoration. The act of shaping clay is a grounding ritual for Alexandra, proving even the smallest action can hold the weight of healing. This figure emerged as a vital counterbalance to the intensity of Alexandra’s research into the causes youth crime. Hesykhia is named after the Greek personification of quiet, rest and stillness. The form captures a moment of ocean breathing, depicting a figure sitting on the beach in a state of repose. It is an invitation to the observer to shed the noise of the outside world and enter a space of stillness.

Hesykhia reflects the quiet that settles when we finally pause to breathe.
